Meet one of our cancer heroes, Francisco Salazar!
When you visit the Mays Cancer Center, you’ll find Francisco screening and taking the temperature of everyone who enters, both patients and staff.
Before the pandemic started, for more than six years, Francisco was in charge of driving our patients to their appointments, making them laugh and listening to them to make their day a little brighter. He enjoyed his role and the responsibility of making sure patients attended their appointments and stayed healthy.
When the pandemic began, he took a new role as a screener since safety precautions had to be implemented right away to keep our patients and staff safe. His new position requires him to interact with patients differently, explaining why wearing a mask is essential, the symptoms of COVID-19, and why checking your temperature is important. He takes his new role very seriously since his main goal is to protect all our immune-compromised patients. Francisco loves to sing mariachi songs, tell jokes and make people happy. We are so fortunate and grateful to have employees like Francisco who are willing to adapt in order to keep our patients and staff safe. Thank you!
