Partnership allows employees to support veterans through mentorship program

UT Health San Antonio employees now have the opportunity to support veterans and the Armed Forces through a partnership with American Corporate Partners (ACP), a national, non-profit organization dedicated to helping military service members transition to the private sector through one-on-one mentorship with business leaders.

The UT System is currently the only public university system in the country participating in ACP’s mentoring program. Over 20,000 veterans have completed successful mentorships leading to immense professional growth and employment success. Through this partnership, all UT System employees can have a meaningful impact on the lives of our veterans.

The simple act of volunteering to share career knowledge and expertise, and network with a veteran, can make the difference between landing a job and building a long-term career. Since 2009, nearly 120 UT Mentors have worked with over 170 veterans.

ACP mentors and protégés are paired for one year based on a variety of considerations. Each pair is encouraged to speak at least once a month, typically virtually, to discuss topics such as résumé and interview preparation, networking and other professional development topics. Throughout the year, an ACP staff member checks in regularly as support. Only 25% of ACP’s mentors are veterans themselves, so anyone can apply, not just other veterans. This opportunity is for anyone who wants to give back to this community.
