Make the most of your UT SELECT health benefits: Top five things to know

UT System employees and retirees, along with their dependents, get discounts when they use certain UT providers or certain UT medical facilities with the UT SELECT medical plan. Take a look at the top five things to know about UT SELECT to make sure you are getting the most out of your health insurance.

1. Program benefits save employees on copays and coinsurance.

Each time you visit a primary care physician or specialist at UT Health Physicians, save $10 on your copay. Current coinsurance under the UT SELECT medical plan is 20%, but if you use a UT Health physician it is only 10%.

2. Access to comprehensive health care.

With UT SELECT, you have access to more than 140 medical and surgical specialties through UT Health Physicians network of more than 800 providers throughout San Antonio and in the Hill Country. For a complete listing, visit UTHeathcare.org.

3. Receive network benefits, even if your primary care provider is not under UT Health Physicians.

You do not have to be assigned to a primary care physician under UT Health Physicians to receive benefits. You can still save on specialty care if your external primary care provider refers you, or if you visit a UT Health Physicians specialist on your own. However, you are encouraged to connect with one of our primary care physicians if you do not currently have a primary care provider.

4. University Health System in San Antonio is a network provider.

University Health System offers a lower member cost share for inpatient hospital stays and some other hospital-based services. Benefits and claims for services provided by emergency room providers, anesthesiologists, radiologists, and pathologists will be based on the network status of the provider. Ask your University Health Providers if they are in the UT SELECT network to ensure benefits will apply. If facilities or providers are out of network, visit the UT Benefits webpage for guidelines.

5. The best contact for information on UT SELECT.

For specific questions on what providers and services are covered, please contact Blue Cross Blue Shield at the number on the back of your insurance card. UT Health employees may also contact their benefits team by sending an email to benefits@uthscsa.edu.
