Support Uvalde by wearing maroon tomorrow

In light of Tuesday's tragedy in Uvalde, we welcome employees to wear a maroon shirt, accessory, or ribbon as an outward display of our support for our neighboring community, family and friends. Maroon is the school color of the Uvalde School District and Robb Elementary. Maroon shirts must be worn with standard uniform scrub bottoms.

As we navigate this tragedy as a community, our UT Health Employee Assistance Program offers a variety of mental health resources for employees. This service is accessible 24-hours a day at 1-800-346-3549. Learn more about our Employee Assistance Programs.

Make the most of your UT SELECT health benefits: Top five things to know

UT System employees and retirees, along with their dependents, get discounts when they use certain UT providers or certain UT medical facilities with the UT SELECT medical plan. Take a look at the top five things to know about UT SELECT to make sure you are getting the most out of your health insurance.

UT System employees and retirees, along with their dependents, get discounts when they use certain UT providers or certain UT medical facilities with the UT SELECT medical plan. Take a look at the top five things to know about UT SELECT to make sure you are getting the most out of your health insurance.

1. Program benefits save employees on copays and coinsurance.

Each time you visit a primary care physician or specialist at UT Health Physicians, save $10 on your copay. Current coinsurance under the UT SELECT medical plan is 20%, but if you use a UT Health physician it is only 10%.

2. Access to comprehensive health care.

With UT SELECT, you have access to more than 140 medical and surgical specialties through UT Health Physicians network of more than 800 providers throughout San Antonio and in the Hill Country. For a complete listing, visit UTHeathcare.org.

3. Receive network benefits, even if your primary care provider is not under UT Health Physicians.

You do not have to be assigned to a primary care physician under UT Health Physicians to receive benefits. You can still save on specialty care if your external primary care provider refers you, or if you visit a UT Health Physicians specialist on your own. However, you are encouraged to connect with one of our primary care physicians if you do not currently have a primary care provider.

4. University Health System in San Antonio is a network provider.

University Health System offers a lower member cost share for inpatient hospital stays and some other hospital-based services. Benefits and claims for services provided by emergency room providers, anesthesiologists, radiologists, and pathologists will be based on the network status of the provider. Ask your University Health Providers if they are in the UT SELECT network to ensure benefits will apply. If facilities or providers are out of network, visit the UT Benefits webpage for guidelines.

5. The best contact for information on UT SELECT.

For specific questions on what providers and services are covered, please contact Blue Cross Blue Shield at the number on the back of your insurance card. UT Health employees may also contact their benefits team by sending an email to benefits@uthscsa.edu.

Debra Kent, DNP, MSN, APRN-CNP, RN, has recently joined the Mays Cancer Center as our new director of the cancer survivorship clinics. Debra will be responsible for growing our survivorship program for adults, adolescents and children for our cancer services.

Before joining the Mays Cancer Center, Debra spent nearly 15 years as an advanced practice nurse at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Ohio. She was responsible for developing the pediatric, adolescent and young adult cancer survivorship program, improving patient clinical outcomes with survivorship research efforts and providing leadership to inform the patient care experience. In addition, she was responsible for monitoring survivorship metrics for the achievement of the Commission on Cancer accreditation.

Debra has devoted her nursing career to oncology, working in the past as a bone marrow transplant pediatric nurse practitioner and co-developing the first onco-primary care program in the U.S. for survivors of childhood cancers at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She has served in leadership roles for the Children’s Oncology Group and the Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses. We want your feedback in the Staff Employee Engagement Survey

UT Health San Antonio is partnering with Gallup, a nationally recognized research organization, to conduct an Employee Engagement Survey of our staff employees to measure and positively impact employee engagement. The survey takes 7-15 minutes, and all responses are completely confidential. All staff employees hired as of April 1, 2022 received an email from gallup.com on May 16 with a link to the survey. We encourage you to answer all questions openly and candidly.

Want to be featured in this year's SECC Campaign?

Help us encourage all employees to give through the SECC this year by sharing your personal reason for giving.

Learn how to submit your reason and see examples of last year's campaign.

Since 1993, state, higher education, and retired employees in Texas have generously contributed more than $200 million through the SECC. We want to encourage all employees to consider giving this year and you can help inspire others to give by sharing your reason. Giving is a personal choice and we want to share real quotes of why people give.

Share your story to inspire people to tell us what motivates you to give through the SECC. Words and pictures are encouraged.  Responses received by the deadline of Tuesday, May 31, 2022, will be considered for use in 2022 SECC campaign messaging (in print and online). Click here to see examples from last year’s campaign.

Please note: Submissions indicate an employee’s consent/permission to use their story/photo in SECC promotional materials, if selected.

!. Your NAME … (first + last)

2. Your STATE AGENCY or UNIVERSITY

3. Your SECC REGION … (https://www.secctexas.org/local-campaign-manager)

5. OPTIONAL, BUT ENCOURAGED: Snap a selfie or submit a recent (color) photo to accompany your “why I give” quote. Camera shy? Share your quote without a PIX! When submitting a photo, please keep in mind the following:
