CPRIT adds $10.9 million to UT Health San Antonio cancer research and prevention efforts
 
 

The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UT Health San Antonio) is receiving $10.9 million in new research and faculty recruitment awards announced Feb. 16 by the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT). The statewide cancer agency has now awarded $128.7 million to UT Health San Antonio since 2010.


 
 
Heart emergencies: What to do after calling 911
 
 

Most people know the first thing to do during an emergency is to call 911, but they don’t know what steps to take after dialing 911. Learn from a UT Health Cardiologist what you should do if your loved one is experiencing a cardiac emergency.


In honor of February as American Heart Month, employees are encouraged to wear red shirts with their uniform scrub bottoms every Friday in February.

 

Red shirts may not contain obscene words, gestures, or symbols. In addition, no large brand names or logos are allowed.

 

If an employee’s shirt is deemed inappropriate for the workplace, they will be sent home to change and vacation leave will be used to make up their time. 

 
 
Participants needed for Tai Chi Study
 
 

Researchers at UT Health San Antonio are seeking volunteers 40-80 years of age with knee osteoarthritis as well as those free of known neuromuscular diseases for a two-week Tai Chi study to investigate biomechanical risk factors. With one in three Latinos facing a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime, UT Health San Antonio is hosting 2022 Advancing the Science of Cancer in Latinos in-person conference on Feb. 23-25 at the Westin Riverwalk, 420 W. Market St, in San Antonio.

Patrick Sung, DPhil, is the new director of the Greehey Children’s Cancer Research Institute, effective March 1, 2022. William L. Henrich, MD, MACP, president of UT Health San Antonio, and Robert Hromas, MD, FACP, dean of the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine and vice president for medical affairs, announced Dr. Sung’s appointment in February.
