Leadership Transition for UT Health Physicians on the retirement of Dr. Rosende
 

Carlos A. Rosende, MD, FACS, former executive vice dean for clinical affairs and executive director of UT Health Physicians, retired on January 31, 2022. As of Feb. 1, Robert R. Leverence, MD, FACP, now serves as the interim vice dean for clinical affairs and executive director of UT Health Physicians. Please join us in welcoming Dr. Leverence as he assumes his new role and in thanking Dr. Rosende for his contributions to the practice and institution.

In Memoriam: Charles A. Rockwood Jr., MD, legendary orthopaedic educator and EMS founder
 

Renowned orthopaedic surgeon Charles A. Rockwood Jr., MD, died Feb. 1 at age 92 after a 60-year career in San Antonio. Joining the UT medical school faculty in San Antonio in 1966, he was one of the medical school’s founding faculty members, retiring just two years ago.

Patrick Sung, DPhil, is the new director of the Greehey Children’s Cancer Research Institute, effective March 1, 2022. William L. Henrich, MD, MACP, president of UT Health San Antonio, and Robert Hromas, MD, FACP, dean of the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine and vice president for medical affairs, announced Dr. Sung’s appointment in February.
